Principal's Message

Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School, home of the Lancers, is a centre of academic and technological excellence. Our school's motto is “We Strive for the Highest”. We take pride in our dedication to academics, athletics and being active in our community. Sir Wil is a dynamic, multicultural school in Orleans in Ottawa’s east-end. We are a semestered school that offers both English and French Immersion programs. We have a unique pre-engineering program and we specialize in Specialist High Skills Major certificates in Arts and Culture, Information Communication (Broadcasting or Digital Media), and Construction/Housebuilding. Many of our graduates have gone on to attend University and College programs specializing in those areas.  Our Arts and Athletics programs are extremely diverse and allow students to participate in a safe and caring environment.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School is committed to providing a rich and invigorating learning environment for all students and staff. We believe it is the responsibility of each student to develop the attitudes and values which will foster respect and the pursuit of personal excellence. We teach critical thinking skills, provide authentic experiential learning opportunities, and use a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning that fosters creativity. Our graduates have productive work habits and can work with self-discipline, either individually or as a member of a team. Our staff is extremely engaged in professional learning and we are very proud that two of our staff members have recently been recognized with the Director’s Citation Award.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier is a place of learning, understanding, and collaboration.  The OCDSB’s Indigenous, Equity and Human Rights Roadmap supports our growth as a community to recognize the inherent dignity of each member of our learning community and our engagement in anti-oppression and anti-racism endeavours.  As a learning community we are committed to fighting racism, bias and prejudice in all forms and our students’ voices are integral in our growth.
Our school is attached to the Ray Friel Recreation Complex, the Ottawa Public Library, and the River Heights Children's Centre, making the school the hub of the community. Many students take advantage of the proximity of these facilities for their cooperative education placements and their volunteer community service hours. In addition, we have an active and very supportive School Council that works with the school’s Administration and teaching staff to support our school initiatives and special events.
I am extremely proud to be the Principal of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School.

Sincerely,

Nancy Girozan

Principal
