School Update: Sept 6th

School Update: Sept 6th
Posted on 09/06/2024

Dear Sir Wil Families,

With week 1 behind us, we wanted to send an update for families with some key reminders and information to keep in mind as we progress into the fall.

  • Drop Off/Pickup: If driving a student to school, please ensure you are familiar with our pickup/drop-off locations. There have been a couple of near collisions this week as folks get used to following the designated traffic flow, so please exercise caution. Students MAY NOT be dropped off at the Front Door (facing Tenth Line) in the morning. Please review the traffic diagram for drop-off instructions.

  • Families are encouraged to ensure they have discussed the new Ministry of Education mandated restrictions on personal devices. Students have been extremely cooperative with the new rules in week 1, and we will be stepping up our vigilance next week with ensuring all students are adhering to the rules. Details

  • Student Timetables: a reminder that students' semester 1 timetables changes will be completed by Wednesday Sept 11th. Please note: Only essential course changes are being considered at this time (e.g. change of pathway, missing prerequisite, failed courses, or impact of summer school credits completed). Details

  • Save the Date: Thursday Sept 19th will be our Open House/Athletics and Clubs Fair (5:30 - 7:00). This is a great opportunity for families to see the school, chat with our Department Heads and a few of our teachers about pathway options at school and to see the wide variety of extracurricular activities available to students. Our first School Council meeting of the year will take place at 7:00pm in the school library - all parents and guardians are invited to join us.

Student Activity Fees:

As with all areas of life, inflation is having a significant impact on school budgets. Costs associated with extracurricular activities, special events, transportation, sports, etc have all increased significantly over the last 3 years. This year, we have decided to freeze the student activity fee requested of families at the previous level ($20) and not pass on those increases to families. Given this, it will be extremely important that as many families as possible participate in contributing to the student activity fund so that we can continue to offer the wide range of extracurricular activities that the SWL community is known for. The student fee can be paid online (LINK) or in-person at the main office. For those who are in a position to assist other families, an option is available to allow you to also pay the fee on behalf of another family in financial need. Thank you in advance for assisting in this matter. If you have not already set up an account in SchoolCash, you will need to do so. If you need assistance with the SchoolCash website to make payment, please contact the school office (613-834-4500) and we would be happy to assist.

Parent/Guardian Consent Forms: All families are asked to complete the 3 forms below by no later than September 13th.
